Grand Master Poon Shing is the 4th generation inheritor of the Choy Lee Fat system and the direct source of the knowledge we transmit at the Lou Fu Institute. He was born in Guangzhou, China, on January 12, 1925, as the second son of the legendary Grand Master Poon Dik.
From 1934 to 1956, he studied intensively under his father's tutelage in Hong Kong, mastering not only empty-hand forms but also the cultural and martial significance of lion dance, combat techniques, and a vast array of traditional weapons.
Upon his father's passing in 1956, Grand Master Poon Shing assumed leadership of the Poon Dik Athletic Association, becoming a guardian of the family's martial heritage.
In 1983, Grand Master Poon Shing was selected by the Chinese government to join an official cultural diplomacy delegation. During this historic tour of South America, he introduced the authentic Choy Lee Fat Kung Fu to Bolivia, Peru, and Brazil – planting the seeds for the art's flourishing across the continent.
His students remember him not only as a master of technique, but as a living embodiment of the virtues he taught: respect, humility, and perseverance.
He passed away peacefully on May 14, 2015, leaving behind a legacy that continues to grow through his direct disciples, including Grand Master Poon Wai Sanchez of Nan Tien Men and Sifu Claudio Vicente of Lou Fu.
